At least one Mega Millions player has plenty of dough to ring in the New Year after drawing the winning number. After three months without anyone winning the top prize in the lottery, a ticket worth an estimated $1.22 billion was sold in California for the drawing Friday night, according to the Mega Millions website.

If all five numbers match the numbers drawn, the “Mass Cash” player wins $100,000. If they match four numbers, the prize is $250, and if they match three, the prize is $10.

The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday’s lottery drawing has jumped to an estimated $1.22 billion, with a cash option of $549.7 million. The winning numbers will be posted here once they are drawn at 11 p.m.

A man had to step away from a holiday party to make sure a Christmas gift from his friend — a lottery ticket — was really a winner. The friend gifted two lottery tickets to a married couple at an annual holiday party shortly before Christmas, according to a Dec. 26 news release from the Maryland Lottery.
