Jimmy Carter's state funeral was held at the National Cathedral on Thursday and the 39th president's final journey to Georgia has begun. President Biden gave a eulogy at the service, highlighting Carter's character and faith.

Former President Jimmy Carter will be laid to rest in his hometown of Plains, Georgia on Thursday night. He will be buried next to his wife, Rosalynn Carter, outside the home they lived in for decades.

Carter’s body arrived for a second, more intimate service at Maranatha Baptist Church late Thursday afternoon, a small congregation on the outskirts of Plains, Georgia, where he long taught Sunday school.

Around 50 family and friends witnessed the last public display of honor for Carter when the motorcade arrived around 5 p.m. at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains. They stood at the front of the vehicle procession as 21 F-18s with the U.S. Navy flew over as the motorcade arrived around 5 p.m. at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains.

Jimmy Carter made a final trip home to Plains, to be buried near the modest house he shared with his wife Rosalynn for more than six decades.
