AIRPORTS and train stations in Malaga has been left swamped underwater after surging storms continue to cause chaos in Spain. Thousands were forced to flee their homes as Marbella braced itself

The Costa del Sol, including popular tourist destinations like Marbella, Estepona, and Vélez, is bearing the brunt of the extreme weather phenomenon known as a “Dana”, which will see up to 7.1 inches of rain in some areas within hours.

Flights in and out of Malaga airport were delayed and cancelled and thousands of people have been evacuated due to extreme rainfall and flash floods in the Costa del Sol region. The country’s national weather office Aemet placed both Malaga and the northeastern Catalonia region on the highest alert for strong rain expected to last until Friday.

Schools were closed, people were evacuated and transportation services were suspended on Wednesday due to excessive rainfall and flooding.

Residents watched as torrents of water gushed down a flight of stairs within metres of shops and homes - as thousands have evacuated and many more locked down in their homes and holiday flats.
