Los Alamitos continues to be in charge of Sunset League boys basketball. The Griffins clinched the outright league championship Thursday with a 68-58 win over Corona del Mar in a league game at Los Alamitos High.

The Griffins earned a 2-0 win at Newport Harbor High on Tuesday night, despite plenty of chances for the host Sailors in the second half.

Vivi Zacarias scores both goals for Los Alamitos, which earns the No. 1 seed and first-round bye in the league’s inaugural end-of-regular-season tournament.

Corona del Mar’s girls basketball team provided another twist Wednesday to an already dramatic Sunset League race. The Sea Kings rallied from an early nine-point deficit to beat first-place Los Alamitos 35-29 in a low-scoring game that further compressed the standings.
