When it was first discovered, YR4 had a 1-in-83 chance of striking Earth. It increased to 1-in-67, then 1-in-53, then to 1-in-43 and, now its odds are 1-in-38 —or 2.6 per cent — of hitting our planet. The European Space Agency’s odds are only slightly lower at around 2.4 per cent of making impact.
