Mayor Quinton Lucas said the city is working to change the narrative that city's surrounding Kansas City, Missouri, do a better job clearing snow after winter storms.

Hundreds of city and state workers are grabbing their shovels and plows this week in an effort to clear out the snow and ice blanketing the Kansas City metro. Since early last week, public workers have been preparing to scrape and plow roadways and help people get back to their normal lives.

The focus of clearing roads in Kansas City, Kansas, has shifted to neighborhoods. According to the Unified Government, all the primary, or “hot,” roads and secondary roads have been plowed. Crews are now working on the 131 routes for neighborhood roads.

Road crews are still clearing streets in the Kansas City metro and some areas have their own set of challenges getting all the snow out.

Snow is now expected to reach the Kansas City metro from a winter storm pushing across the southern United States overnight Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. While initial forecasts indicated the metro would likely only see a dusting with minimal overall impacts,
